A participant’s diary

Monday

Didn't really get around to reading, busy week for me.

Wednesday

Hey, I just heard a song on the radio based on a psalm! I guess I'll be reading this week's psalms tonight.

Friday

Good. The meditative reading of the psalms is done. It did raise a question: Why are enemies so cursed in the psalms? I don't know if I believe that to be such a good example to follow ...

Saturday afternoon

It’s an hour before dinner and I’ve read the whole passage from 2 Kings! I still have time to do some shopping before going to the bible reading group dinner.

Saturday evening

Interesting discussion about my question from Friday. In the end, we didn't arrive at a definitive answer, but that’s okay. In other news, we watched a video on Wars in the Old Testament, with René van Woudenberg. He explained how to look at that hostile language from a different perspective. Towards the end of the evening, there was also a little quiz that included the question:

How did Joshua respond when the tribes complained about being given too little territory?

Surprising answer:

Sort it out yourselves! Take your destiny into your own hands and start clearing and mining the mountains.

I wonder what kind of conversations these texts will provoke.
